Why I'm not on Facebook

I decided to take a vacation from FB for a bit. Every once in a while I get kinda paranoid and then decide that there is nothing to be worried about. I never put anything controversial on FB. I always keep my internet language clean, still.

It's interesting what it is like to be off FB. I never realized how much I checked it and used it! I spent more time there then I'd like to admit. I missed it mostly on my phone where it was just quick widget away. I suppose it would be heart warming to hear that I went back to old forms of communication like letters and phone calls, but please, this is 2011. It's simply not how it's done! In fact, after I went off FB, only one person sent an e-mail asking why, and one other person sent a text. Interesting how we don't even e-mail any more!

So if a person is not on Facebook, does not e-mail, nor text...they really aren't in touch with me.

I didn't say that to be mean, I was just thinking of how we communicate. Which makes me think of the movie Super 8. I just saw it yesterday. Cute movie with a bunch of kids who stumble into a government cover-up. It's set in 1979 and I'm thinking it definitely would have nostalgic appeal for people in their 40's. In a way, I suppose it is what "Stand By Me" was two decades ago. I watched "Stand By Me", but it didn't resonate with me, perhaps it was that I was not born in 1959 when it was set. So Super 8 was likely met to be Gen X's version of Stand By Me.

In Super 8 the kids use walkie-talkies, some folks have CB's, but mostly it's just one large clunky family phone! I love when the boy goes to the photo shop (remember those) and wants the film developed over night. The clerk laughs at him, and says a RUSH order will take just three days. God our lives have grow so instant! It was a good movie, and sweet.

Will I return to Face Book? Yes, in fact I am plotting my return soon. I just have to decide what to call myself.
