An Old Picture of Mervi and me

We are at the top of the World Trade Center in 1991. This was Mervi's first trip to the US and our second time seeing each other. Since the building no longer stands, it makes it an odd picture to look at. That and seeing how heinous we looked in the prime of our lives!

Hair

In March, after three years of growing my hair long to give to locks of love I decided to change up my hair radically. Here are the shots. The first is long hair from February, the second is the short style from late March, and finally, we have yesterday's art work from late May. My hair dresser is Darla and she is phenominal. Of course it helps that I let her do anything she wants.

Stardust and Prince Caspian

StarDust made me think of the Princess Bride in that you have the hero and the damsel (not neccessarily in distress), but beyond that...no. StarDust is its own tale of Tristan who sets out to find a star for a rather shallow girl interest and later discovers what true love means. In between, of course, we have an evil witch and greedy princes who also want to find the star for their own nefarious reasons. In the end Tristan finds all those things a young man on a heroes journey might find and they live happily ever after.

GAG! So that's what happens, truly, but what made it stand out was humor, great characterization, and Tristan's discoveries. Watch it! It's good!

Prince Caspian! Well, let's get past the fact that Ben Barnes (who plays Caspian) is indeed cute. OK, that's out of the way. This one was better than the first (and no not b/c of Ben Barnes!). No, this had more tension. You really felt Peter's struggles as warrior king. Though he had fought in the first battle he was a year older and closer to WWII. He had to be affected by the reality that he too would shhip off in the real world and although he'd been an adult king in Narnia, it had been a time of peace.
All the characters were spot on. The Telemarine baddies were bad without scaring the little kids and not so wacky they came off as unbelievable to adults. Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, were older and wiser and involved in the action. Oddly, the ethics of killing were addressed, but I'm not so sure the conclusions our heroes come to make sense: Susan shots her arrow from afar =ok, Peter fights hand to hand to the death but won't kill =hmmm?? But a good movie does leave you with questions and hopefully CS Lewis liked ppl to question (I'm not so sure though since he thought Tolkien too verbose, but I digress).

Watch it, ok.... if only for Ben Barnes (and those gorgeous blackberry eyes!)!!!

Oh! And the cute little character is Reepicheep. Though it is a Disney production we have no stupid side kicks!
